Services

Outreach services include any activities that occur outside of the traditional library setting. The service through the Lafourche Parish Public Library typically falls into three categories: community outreach, school literacy outreach and summer reading program.

Community Outreach:

Outreach is designed to build community relations. COS staff and/or library staff participate by operating booths or tables to hand out materials that promote the library and its services. These special programs consist of but are not limited to: local fairs and festivals, Head Start family gatherings, area Christmas parades and Veterans’ parades.

The Community Outreach Service staff provides regular delivery service to Senior Citizen Centers and Nursing Homes.

School Literacy Outreach:

COS staff travel throughout Lafourche Parish promoting literacy to area public, private and parochial schools by engaging children in lively story times consisting of books, songs, finger plays, music, puppets, theater and crafts. COS staff visits each Head Start Facility in Lafourche Parish delivering books and/or providing a program designed to promote literacy.  The staff also checks out books from area library branches to distribute to these locations for their use.

Summer Reading Program:

COS staff works with library staff at each branch to promote reading literacy and fun engaging activities for all ages during the summer months.

Services are available to communities surrounding all nine-library branch locations: Golden Meadow, South Lafourche, Larose, Lockport, Gheens, Raceland, Choctaw, Bayou Blue and Thibodaux. Please contact Community Outreach Service staff at 985-228-1356 or 985-632-7140 for more information or to be added as a site for service.
