Interlibrary Loan ( ILL )

What is ILL?
ILL stands for "Interlibrary Loan." This process allows us to request items not in our collection from other libraries in our lending network.

What is required to request an ILL?
You must have a valid Lafourche Parish Public Library card and be a patron in good standing to request items through ILL.

How do I request an ILL?
If our library system does not have the item that you desire, we will try to request it on your behalf. You can either fill out an online request form here or contact a staff member for assistance.

How long will the request take?
We cannot give a definitive assessment of the time it will take to fulfill an ILL request. All requests are different and are dependent on the availability of resources in our lending network. Unfortunately, our lending network is sometimes unable to provide us with your request.

How long can I keep the materials?
The lending library will decide how long you can keep the item.

Can ILL items be renewed?
We can try to renew ILL items on your behalf; however, it is up to the lending libraries to extend the borrowing time. Contact us one week before the item is due, and we will submit your request to the lending library.

Are there late fees or other charges?

Items will come to patrons with a re-usable book strap. This book strap contains identifying information needed by LPPL. The book strap must remain on the book and be returned with the book in the condition it was sent out in. If the book strap is not returned or is returned damaged a $2.00 fine will be added to the patron’s account for each missing or damaged book strap. Fine(s) must be paid before further ILL books can be borrowed.
