Illusion

Illusion

By Frank Peretti

Illusion is the story of married magicians Dane and Mandy Collins who have decided to retire from the Vegas show circuit to the wide open spaces of Idaho where Mandy grew up. When they are all set to start this new chapter of their lives, Mandy is tragically killed in a car wreck. Dane decides to make the move as planned as he faces the grief and struggle of living without her.

Meanwhile, Mandy finds herself snatched out of her life in the 1970s before she first met Dane, and into the present, (40 years later). She lands in her hometown at the county fair in a hospital gown, and her disorientation from time travel quickly lands her in a mental ward. After several setbacks, Mandy manages to land on her feet and begins doing magic performances. She eventually meets up with Dane, and of course he thinks he is crazy. He has found someone who looks so much like his wife and who also has a real knack for illusions.

This suspenseful tale blends stage magic with inter-dimensional time travel. Within its fast-paced, swirling confusion is the thrill of a time-altered romance that is both forbidden and familiar. It all makes sense in the end, and readers who stick with it through the slow parts won’t be disappointed.
