Keto for Life by Mellissa Sevigny

It seems like there is a new diet fad surfacing every season. There’s low calorie diets, high calorie diets, low fat diets, high fat diets, Vegetarian and/or Vegan diets, Mediterranean diets, Paleo/raw diet, detox diets, low carbohydrate diets, and about a thousand more. Each one claims to offer rapid weight loss without the dieter having to give up their favorite comfort foods or spend hours working out. Millions of dollars have been spent on researches trying to find out which diet is the best. The problem with all diets is sustainability. Most diets are just hard to stick to, and dieters often fall off the wagon or get discouraged when they don’t see instant results. When someone decides to start a diet, they are already setting themselves up for failure. To lose and maintain your desired weight, changes in your diet must become part of your long term lifestyle.

Lately, the newest diet fad to grace the Internet is the keto diet. What exactly is the keto diet you ask? Well, it is essentially a low carb, moderate protein, and high fat diet. Once you cut out most carbohydrates and processed foods from your diet, ketosis kicks in. Ketosis is a normal metabolic process in which your body burns fat for fuel instead of stored carbohydrates, thus resulting in weight loss. Starting on a keto journey is daunting. Thankfully, food blogger Mellissa Sevigny has compiled a wonderful cookbook to help you on your journey. Sevigny’s book, Keto for Life: Look better, feel better, and watch the weight fall off with 160+ delicious high fat recipes, makes diving into the keto lifestyle a lot less intimidating. Keto for Life is divided into three easy to read parts. In part 1, she does a great job of explaining exactly what the keto diet entails, how to stick with the lifestyle (and what to do if you fall off the wagon), as well as different kitchen devices you will need to succeed. Part 2 gives a detailed 4-week, easy to follow meal plan and shopping list. Part 3 is the recipes. Unlike many cookbooks, Sevigny includes a picture of every recipe in her book, along with icons identifying if the recipe is dairy free, egg free, nut free, and vegetarian. These icons are especially helpful for people with allergies and intolerances. Along with great photos and helpful icons, Sevigny includes the yield, prep and cook time, nutritional value, and tips on storage and reheating. Keto for Life was written with busy families in mind. Sevigny’s recipes easy to follow and won’t break the bank. The best part? Everything looks delicious and will satisfy the pickiest of eaters. There’s a lot of variety too so you won’t get bored with the same boring zucchini noodles day in and day out. She also provides readers with additional resources she found useful when compiling this book and an illustrative index.

Keto for Life: Look better, feel better, and watch the weight fall off with 160+ delicious high fat recipes, is visually pleasing, well organized, and personable. Mellissa Sevigny’s sense of humor and straightforwardness make you feel like you’re talking to a friend. Keto for Life is great for both novice and experienced Keto dieters.
