Brooke's Pick: The Stranger Inside by Laura Benedict

Many people have a perfectly rational fear of an intruder breaking into their home, but what if a stranger moved in while you were on a weekend getaway? That's exactly what happens to Kimber Hannon in Laura Benedict's new novel, The Stranger Inside.

How would you react to a stranger living in your house? Would you be able to keep your cool when the police say this interloper has a right to stay because they were able to produce a lease agreement with your signature? If you think that you would not handle this situation well, then The Stranger Inside needs to go on your TBR list because you may well relate to Kimber dealing with this audacious situation.

Not only is Kimber worried about this stranger in her house ... to make matters worse, he seems to know something nefarious about Kimber's past. A secret she would rather keep hidden. If she pushes the issue of him living in her home, will he expose her? Does she dare risk finding out?

The Stranger Inside is a dramatic two-part mystery - there is that of the stranger in Kimber's house, and then there is her hidden past. Both mysteries are entangled and unraveled through a dual timeline narrative - one following the present, and the other exposing the past. Both storylines slowly reveal parts and pieces of these mysteries until they come together for the big reveal at the end.

The Stranger Inside will appeal to readers who have not yet tired of the suspense/thriller genre. Seasoned suspense readers may find this novel lacking in thrills and chills and a compelling twist. However, for those who have not "read it all before," this novel contains enough suspense to keep the pages turning.
