I judged a book by its cover and liked it! Dale Brown isn’t an author I have read before, but I really enjoyed the story of Nick Flynn and look forward to more.
U.S. Air Force Intelligence Officer Nick Flynn is a patriot and a hero. Unfortunately, his superiors need a scape goat for a mission that went wrong. Flynn is sent to a remote base in Alaska where he can’t possibly get into more trouble. Or can he? Once there, Flynn embraces his role as commander and energizes his rag tag bunch of troops. Meanwhile, Russia has a defector that steals a brand-new prototype super-secret aircraft. The Russian just happens to land in Alaska. Chaos ensues and it's up to Flynn and his group to save the world from possible nuclear war.
I chose to listen to the twelve-hour audiobook version narrated by Rob Shapiro. I really enjoyed this first book in the Nick Flynn series. It took me a little while to really get involved with the story, but I was really invested by the end of the book. The author, Dale Brown, is a former U.S. Air Force captain, so he is well versed in the terminology and maneuvers in which he writes. I didn't devour the book in one day but it kept me interested during my daily commute.
