Dione's Pick: Total Power by Vince Flynn

I am a devoted fan of the fictional character Mitch Rapp created by Vince Flynn. Flynn passed away years ago, but fellow author Kyle Mills continued on with the character Mitch Rapp. Total Power is the sixth book written by Mills. A common theme with all the books in this series is saving America in some way or another. Mitch Rapp is a CIA assassin that always gets the job done.

I was surprised that this book takes place almost entirely in America. In fact, the entire book was surprising. Attacks on America have come in many shapes and forms over the years, but this book relies on the premise of an attack on our electrical grid. One man, John Alton, has amassed the capability and know-how to entirely decimate the power grid of one of the most powerful countries in the world. All he needs is another world power to help him implement his plan. He puts feelers out in the dark web. Russia turns him down, however ISIS does not. Armed with his vast knowledge of the U.S. power grid and the ISIS team he has assembled, Alton puts his plan into action. It is successful beyond his wildest dreams.

Enter, Mitch Rapp. Rapp has created his own fortress and underground bunker over time. He is prepared to weather this storm with his family for years if necessary. But Mitch Rapp fans know it’s not in Rapp’s nature to stand in the background. He couldn’t possibly let his beloved country burn to the ground and lose millions of lives. Rapp steps up to the plate. With the help of his friends, Rapp tries to save the county.

As I stated in the beginning, I was surprised at the storyline of the book. I am used to Rapp in other countries fighting terrorists and bad guys who want to harm the U.S., but never quite make it into the country. This was a whole different set of circumstances. The bad guy was a U.S. citizen already in the country. Not only was he in the country, but he was a trusted member of the government. Rapp is a no nonsense type of guy. He is not afraid to use torture to get information. Have you ever covered your eyes while reading? I did while I was reading this book! Then I laughed at myself because I couldn’t see. If you are ready for a thrilling, can’t-put-the-book-down reading session, pick up a copy of Total Power.
