Heather's Pick: Game On by Janet Evanovich

Unsure if he is her partner or her competition, Stephanie Plum and Oswald Wednesday try to hunt down a master cyber criminal in Trenton.

We have previously taken twenty-seven trips around the sun with Stephanie Plum and the gang, and last November Janet Evanovich added a twenty-eighth. Game On: Tempting Twenty-Eight is the latest installment in the Stephanie Plum mystery series where we find Stephanie and her sometimes sidekick Diesel hunting down a notorious hacker named Oswald Wednesday.

Oswald has missed his court date and Stephanie is on his trail. However, her search becomes more complicated when Oswald begins hunting a hacker group known as The Baked Potatoes, taking revenge on them by killing them one-by-one and cutting out their tongues. Now it is up to Stephanie and her crew to save the rest of the Baked Potatoes from demise and apprehend Oswald.

This installment of the beloved series did not disappoint other than it was not long enough. I usually listen to the audiobooks of this series and I found that this one seemed to go by faster than the previous books. Stephanie is still as sassy, upbeat, and relatable as she always is. Her family, coworkers, and friends are still as entertaining and dysfunctional as always. These elements of the novels, as well as Janet Evanovich’s ability to imagine creative and interesting mysteries and cases are the main reasons I keep returning to this series. Every installment is equivalent to catching up with relatives or friends you haven’t seen in a while. I will confess that this installment didn’t add anything new to the already beloved series as previous novels have. It stayed in its comfort zone, which may have contributed to the length of the novel seeming short. It was the same, and as familiar, as it always has been; however, I would have liked something new or something different thrown into the mix. This is not to say that I did not enjoy this book, because I always will read and enjoy anything related to this series.
