Katie's Pick: Ghosted in L.A. Series by Sina Grace

Updated: Aug 11, 2020

Sina Grace and Siobhan Keenan team up to pen Ghosted in L.A., a contemporary coming of age story about a young girl trying to find herself in a big city. Daphne Walters leaves her humdrum life behind in to follow her high school boyfriend to college in Los Angeles, for what she thinks will be happily ever after. When Ronnie, her high school boyfriend dumps her, Daphne finds herself in a new city, with no friends or family, and a terrible on campus roommate. To make matters worse, her best friend, Kristi, is unsupportive of her big life changes. Devastated by her breakup with Ronnie and falling out with her best friend, Daphne sets out to explore the city. She stumbles upon the mysterious Rycroft Manor, a beautiful and abandoned home. Upon further inspection, Daphne finds out that the manor is home to several ghosts. Since finding an apartment in L.A. is next to impossible, Daphne decides to move into Rycroft Manor with its ghostly inhabitants. Although she already has a place to stay on campus with other humans, Daphne feels more at home with the ghosts at the manor. It is here that she learns about finding love, friendship, and living life to the fullest from a group of ghosts who are not quite done living.

If you are looking for a short series of graphic novels to casually read through, Ghosted in L.A. is the book series for you. Sina Grace and Siobhan Keenan’s characters are quite contemporary and relatable, especially for young adult and teen readers. I enjoyed the unique premise of the book. I don’t think I’ve picked up a book about a young college girl finding her way through life with the help of ghosts. Sionhan Keenan and Cathy Le’s artwork is cute and charming; it works well with the light-heartiness of the graphic novel.
