You'd think being abducted by aliens would be the worst thing that could happen to me. And you'd be wrong. Because now the aliens are having ship trouble, and they've left their cargo of human women-including me-on an ice planet. We're not equipped for life in this desolate winter wasteland. Since I'm the unofficial leader, I head out into the snow to look for help. I find help all right. A big blue horned alien introduces himself in a rather... startling way.
Ever hear about a book and think no way I’m reading something so ridiculous? Well, that’s what I thought when I heard about Ice Planet Barbarians by Ruby Dixon from TikTok. Big blue aliens romancing young women seemed like a stretch. But I was pleasantly surprised by the book. I enjoyed it more than I thought.
Ice Planet Barbarians is the first book in a 22-part sci-fi romance series by Ruby Dixon. The book opens with Georgie Carruthers, a human woman from planet Earth, lamenting her current situation. She’s been abducted by little green aliens in the middle of the night. Georgie, along with several other young women, are being held captive in a cargo storage container on a spaceship. The storage container is filthy, not meant for live cargo. It becomes evident that these aliens see humans as cattle. Georgie decides she’s not being sold to slavery (or for meat) so she decides to stage a coup to free herself and the other girls from the aliens. In the chaos of the uprising, the cargo container breaks off from the main part of the ship and crashes on an ice planet, which the girls name Not-Hoth. Donning the suit of one of their now dead alien captors, Georgie goes to look out for shelter and any intelligent life on Not-Hoth. While out exploring, she gets caught in a hunter’s trap. After hanging around a bit, she encounters the hunter who set the trap. His name is Vektal, and he’s a huge, blue horned alien. And he’s just as shocked to find a small pink creature in his net as Georgie is to see a demonic looking alien on the ice planet. He untangles her, and brings Georgie to a nearby cave, and introduces himself in a very strange way. He communicates to Georgie that they have a special connection, and she’s now his mate. Vektal is willing to help her and the other girls survive the ice planet, but Georgie is unsure if she can trust Vektal and his tribe of barbarians. After her first encounter with aliens, Georgie doubts Vektal’s motives for helping her and the other girls. She fears Vektal won’t let her go back to Earth. Furthermore, Georgie’s unsure she even wants to go; she’s started developing a strange attraction to her blue savior.
Ice Planet Barbarians by Ruby Dixon is a great introduction into the strange world of sci-fi alien romance. The book is told from the two main characters’ point of views, but is done in a way that isn’t confusing or distracting. If you’re looking for an in-depth literary masterpiece, this book isn’t it. But if you want a steamy love story, set on a far off planet, with surprisingly humorous dialog sprinkled in, this book is for you.
