The Power Couple starts out as a kidnapped child situation, but it is more than that. It is an espionage thriller with explosive marital secrets.
Rebecca and Brian both work for the US government - Rebecca for the FBI in Russian counterintelligence and Brian with the elite hacking division of the NSA. For their anniversary, they decide to take the family on a vacation to Spain. Their 19 year old daughter Kira goes out one night in Barcelona to meet up with a man she met. Of course she doesn’t tell her parents, only her brother Josh, who keeps her secret until she doesn’t come back to their hotel that night.
The book is told from multiple points of view. We get to see Kira and what is happening to her and both Rebecca and Brian as they try to find her. Rebecca and Brian also take a trip down memory lane of their lives and how they got there. As we learn about their pasts, we see things aren’t as simple as they originally seem.
This is a puzzle that needs all of the pieces to fit together. Some of the stories from the past are a bit slow, but you understand why they needed to be told at the end when the pieces all fit into place. The story reminded me a little bit of the movie Taken with Liam Neeson and the spy thriller TV series, The Americans. The ending was satisfying with an ‘oh wow’ moment that sets it apart from other thrillers.
