Everybody Needs a Friend

October is a month filled with Red Letter Days and many reasons for celebrating. A very important week in this month is National Friends of the Library Week which is celebrated October 18-24, 2015. Friends groups are a vital part of libraries. These groups are instrumental in encouraging greater use of libraries, supporting programs, developing new services, and providing communication between libraries and citizens. The Lafourche Parish Public Library Friends groups provide resources for additional programming, purchasing much needed equipment, supporting summer reading programs and special events. The Lafourche Parish Public Library system promotes and thanks the members of its Friends groups. Their volunteer spirit and commitment set a wonderful example and highlight the fact that our libraries are the cornerstone of our communities. Each branch will be celebrating, promoting, and raising awareness of Friends membership throughout the month.

The Raceland Branch will have a social gathering for Friends of the Library on Monday, October 5 at 2 PM. Refreshments will be served.

The Lockport Branch will have an all-day “Friends Drop in Social” to thank their Friends on Wednesday, October 7.

The Bayou Blue Branch will hold an interest meeting on Monday, October 19 at 4 PM. Refreshments will be served.

The Larose Branch will have “A Gathering of Friends” Open House on Wednesday, October 21 at 11:30 AM.

The Choctaw Branch will host a “Friends of the Library Meet & Greet” on Thursday, October 22 at 5 PM. Refreshments will be served.

The Gheens Branch will hold a “Friends of the Library Information Meeting” on Friday, October 23 at 4:30 PM. Light refreshments will be served.

The Golden Meadow, South Lafourche, and Thibodaux Branches will have displays and event tables set up with information and enrollment opportunities the week of October 18-24, National Friends of the Library Week.

Be a friend. Drop by your favorite library to celebrate, to promote membership, to raise awareness and to become the best friend that you can be. Join a Friends of the Library group!
