ON YOUR MARK, GET SET... GO REGISTER FOR SUMMER READING!

I am about to give you one very good reason why you need to visit your library this Tuesday ... on your mark, get set ... GO REGISTER FOR SUMMER READING! That's right - Summer Reading sign-up begins this Tuesday, May 31st, and you don't want to be late to the game (although you CAN sign-up after the 31st!) And we're not just committing to reading tons of books on Tuesday ... you can also register for the super amazing workshops and events that your home branch will be hosting! But first things first - let's talk about reading.

When you visit your home branch to sign-up for summer reading, you will be asked to set a reading goal for the summer. The number of books (or pages if you're a teen or adult) you choose is totally up to you, but don't make your goal too easy ... you DO want to challenge yourself to READ MORE this summer (plus, the more you read, the more chances you have to win prizes!) Once you're signed-up, start reading, and be sure to list the books/pages you've read on your log! Along the way, you're going to hit certain check-in points - when that happens, stop by your home branch to show us your progress & pick a small prize. As you read more and more, you will be given opportunities to enter drawings for BIG PRIZES! As you can tell, the more you read, the more you can win, so get those books ready! At the end of the summer, each branch holds a Closing Ceremony, where we celebrate your Summer Reading Success and we reward you with prizes!

Now on to the workshops and events! When you register for Summer Reading, you can also sign-up for all of the fun activities we have planned for this summer! Each branch handles Activities Registration differently, so talk with your home branch's staff about how registration works there. Activity Registration will be taking place for the parish workshops & events, as well as your home branch's own activities. Read on to learn about some of the fun activities we have planned for you!

You're not going to want to miss these summer workshops & activities, but be sure to register with your home branch - space is limited! We have Painting Workshops for children, teens, AND adults! We also have a Wire Art Workshop planned for the teens. The kids can come work with clay & do printmaking ... and we also have a Sculpture Workshop planned for them! Our Lockport Branch will be hosting the ZooMobile's Wetlands Express (sign-up for either the morning or afternoon session), and our South Lafourche Branch is hosting a Mini Cheer Camp! And then, of course, all 9 of our branches have tons of other activities planned - inquire at your home branch for more details! And wait - we also have some amazing things planned that you DON'T have to register for! That includes Animal Tales who is bringing ANIMAL ATHLETES to our three main branches! There's Special Princess Storytimes, and the "What Lou Can Do" Summer Reading Tour. The Hey Now Hoopers are coming teach us the tricks of the trade, and the Sock Rockerz are jamming out with a rad concert! Rhythm/Soul will immerse us in an inspirational dance & music experience, and we will be having life-size Jenga challenges at all of our branches! Last but not least, storytimes, the hallmark of Summer Reading, will be held throughout the summer!

In case you were curious, this year's Summer Reading theme ties into fitness, wellness, and sports. For the kids, that means "On Your Mark, Get Set, Read!" For the teens, we want you to "Get in the Game: Read!" And for the adults, "Exercise Your Mind - Read!" You're going to see the theme tied into pretty much everything that's happening at your library this summer. And speaking of "what's happening," if you're not doing so already, FOLLOW US ON FACEBOOK for the latest! We post upcoming events on our Facebook, so you'll never miss out on the latest & greatest, and it is also the place to go for all the pictures!

We hope to see you at your Lafourche Parish Public Library this summer! Let the reading games begin!
