Biography/Autobiographies at your Library!

When searching for my next fabulous read, there is no cranny into which I will not peek! No stone which I will leave unturned! You get the picture, and I’m sure it’s quite an understandable spectacle.

I am a sucker for a good fiction book, let me assure you. Faulkner. Chandler. Marquez. Sigh… That’s love.

Lately, though, many of the books which have been most capturing my att

ention have been from the library’s diverse biography/autobiography section. There seems to be something there for most everyone’s taste. The subjects range from older historical figures to just-emerging pop culture characters to athletes of various sports and more. You can, at the same time, get a book about Walt Disney AND find some material to read up on Gabrielle Douglas. You can find books on both Nelson Mandela AND Patton Oswalt. There are seven books on Michael Jackson in just the Thibodaux branch alone!

A couple of the books I recently read which swept me away were Joan Didion’s The Year of Magical Thinking and Carrie Brownstein’s Hunger Makes Me A Modern Girl. Also, multiple books in my TBR pile (“to be read” as if you didn’t already know and have one yourself!) are more from the biography section. Still need a suggestion? Today is classic film star Lauren Bacall’s birthday. Swing by and check out her book By Myself and Then Some or Now.

Most every time I look through the shelves there is something (in most cases, several things!) which captures my attention. Next time you are on the hunt for a book in which to get lost, fiction is wonderful! History is superb! But don’t forget to stop by the biographical section. Browse. Loiter. Peruse, dare I say?

As they say, sometimes fact can be stranger than fiction. And, often, much more exciting!

Don’t forget, if there is a specific book you absolutely need but can’t find, ask your friendly

Lafourche Parish Librarian. We love to help you find your next favorite book!
