Public libraries, known for having physical books on loan, have in recent years also started lending out digital books for their patrons to read on their computers and mobile devices.
With the holidays right around the corner, it may be difficult to go to your favorite local library to pick up that special book you’ve been waiting to read. Fret not. The Lafourche Parish Library provides e-content through Cloud Library (formerly known as 3M Cloud Library). Many of your favorite books are available through the Cloud Library app.
Remembering when to return items can be difficult when you’re preoccupied with last minute gifts and holiday party scheduling. Like physical material, borrowed e-books have a limited lifespan. When the loan expires, the e-book is automatically returned. That means no late fees. Cloud Library works on a large range of e-reading devices and is easy to use. Like all content borrowed from the library, Cloud Library is free in the iTunes/Google Play store.
Using Cloud Library is easy. On a desktop computer, go to www.lafourche.org. From the library’s website, the easiest way to launch Cloud Library is to click on the bright green icon towards the middle of the page, labeled “eBooks”. On a smart phone or tablet, you can simply download the free app in your app store. From the main Cloud Library screen, you can create an account, using your library card number and PIN number. Searching in Cloud Library is similar to Lafourche Parish Public Library’s catalog. Simply type in your query, or use the suggested book rivers to browse.
Happy browsing!
