Train Your Brain with brainHQ

In recent years, there has been a push for people to exercise more. There are thousands of blogs, YouTube videos, books, magazines, and websites on how to get the best body. Physical health is important for over overall health and well-being. But what about brain health? How can you train your brain? Just as you exercise your quads, abs, and biceps, you can also train memory, attention, focus, and much more. Brain exercise can help improve your overall mental performance.

Lafourche Parish Public Library has a subscription to Brain HQ, a personal brain gym. Brain HQ was developed by neuroscientists, in order to help you reach your peak brain functioning levels. To access Brain HQ for free, simply go to the library’s website, www.lafourche.org. Once on the library’s website, go to the About tab, and select Library A-Z. Brain HQ will be under the B section. After you make an account, you’re ready to get brain fit.

So how does it work? BrainHQ has courses, challenges, and online games that train your brain to become smarter. There are six categories for brain training: attention, brain speed, memory, people skills, intelligence, and navigation. The daily exercises test different parts of your brain and there are hundreds of levels of different exercises. As you get better at the games, the games scale adjusts to your skill level. You can design your own training or have BrainHQ pick your exercises for you. The exercises help you work on various brain functions. You can track your progress as you complete exercises and get feedback on your performance. Training sessions can last as little as three minutes per day, although they can also last for hours depending on how long you want to practice. The games are so fun you will forget you’re actually working out your brain. The best part about Brain HQ? It’s free and you can do it at your own pace. Want to learn more? Head to your local Lafourche Parish Public Library to get a demonstration.
