It's Carnival Time at LPPL!


Laissez le bons temps rouler, y’all! It’s Carnival Time at LPPL!

Love parades but hate Louisiana’s inconsistent weather? No worries, the Lafourche Parish Public Library has you covered. Mardi Gras is Tuesday, February 13. We invite you and your families to be a part of Mardi Gras fun throughout the parish. Our libraries will have Mardi Gras-themed activities and we would be delighted for you to attend. From Mardi Gras parades to art workshops, there is something for everyone to enjoy during the Mardi Gras season at your local library.

Parades:

Gheens - Mardi Gras Krewe du Gheens parade and Book Character Dress Up: All ages are welcomed to come to our Mardi Gras Krewe du Gheens Festival. Children are encouraged to dress as a favorite book character for the parade. Come pass a good time with music and refreshments. Parents can bring wagons for the little ones to join the parade. Line-up begins at 3:30 PM, and the parade rolls at 4:00 PM

Thibodaux - Krewe of Bookworms Parade: Children under the age of 6 are invited to join our Krewe of Bookworms at the Warren J. Harang Jr. Municipal Auditorium. Line-up starts at 9:15. Parade begins at 10:00 a.m.

Wednesday, February 7, 10:00 AM

Lockport - Krewe of Once Upon a Time Parade: Children of all ages are invited to join in the Krewe of Once Upon a Time Parade, held at the Lockport Bayouside Park. Line up begins at 10:00 AM. The parade rolls at 10:30 AM.

Thursday, February 8, 10:30 AM

South Lafourche - Krewe de Les Petites Enfants: Preschool children are invited to take part in the library’s annual Mardi Gras parade, the Krewe of Petits Enfants. Children are welcome to dress in costume and can ride or be pulled in decorated wagons or strollers, or they can walk. For children’s safety, no motorized vehicles are allowed. Children should bring their own throws. The parade will be held in the library’s parking lot. Should there be inclement weather, it will be held inside the building.

Larose - Story Time “Throw Me Something, Mister!”: A story hour for children ages 0 to 5 that incorporates finger plays, song, and dance that follows with a craft program. No registration is required.

Lockport - *Mardi Gras Mixed Media Painting: Did you know you could use newspaper scraps and other materials to make an art piece? It’s called Mixed Media art and this month, we are making a Mardi Gras mask on canvas. Come learn about this form of art and create a masterpiece! Please register online, by calling 532-3158, or by stopping at the sign-up table in the library.

Thibodaux - Handprint Mardi Gras Mask: Children ages 6+ will use their own handprint cutouts to create an original Mardi Gras mask. No registration is required.

Monday, February 5, 4:00 PM

Golden Meadow - *Mardi Gras Bead Picture Frame: Adults can come make a Picture Frame using Mardi Gras Beads. Supplies are provided but registration is a must.

Tuesday, February 6, 1:00 PM

Bayou Blue - Mardi Gras Bead Mosaic: Come create a mosaic using strings of Mardi Gras Beads. No registration is required. All ages welcome.
