Read 20!

Ever wonder why reading outside of school is important? Well here is a great graphic to help you understand. Studies show that is doesn’t matter what you chose to read for fun, it can be a novel, comics, even a magazine. The point is to read! It expands your vocabulary, improves your reading comprehension, increases your reading fluency and even relieves stress. All of which will help keep your minds sharp and raise test scores for our kiddos.

Not sure where to start? Your local library branch is here to help. We have so many reading opportunities every day at our library branches. There are storytimes throughout the parish you can bring your kids to, laptime too for the young ones. Our busiest time of the year is Summer Reading. Summer Reading is for ALL ages, not just kids. We have already starting planning our reading activities and games all centered around our theme – Libraries Rock! Be on the lookout for our summer calendars – coming soon. Remember that reading is for adults too. We have book clubs and social times if that is what you are interested in. We also have books and more books: physical books to touch and smell, ebooks- so no one will know what you’re reading (great for trips in public!), audiobooks in electronic format, audiobooks in Playaway format where all you do is check out the device and listen, or disk format to play in your disk player, as well as magazines, newspapers and so much more.

At your branch and can’t find what you want? We have a total of 9 branches within our Parish and we send books back and forth. So if you don’t see what you want to read just ASK us – we will have it brought to your library for pick up, we will request it from another library system through our Interlibrary Loan system or we can look at adding it to our next book order. Just let us know what you’re looking for.

Bring yourself, bring your kids and come to your nearest library branch – there is something for everyone – and with all those benefits - it’s good for you too! See you soon.
