April's Resource of the Month: Playaway Bookpacks

It is the beginning of April, and if you are a parent then your kids may have already started their countdown to summer vacation. As final tests and projects start piling up, your kids may find it hard to create time to wind down with a book at the end of the day. A great reading resource for the worn out student or a reluctant reader is audiobooks. Audiobooks are a wonderful way to “read” a book while being able to relax and decompress from your day.

Lafourche Parish Public Library system offers a unique audiobook format for children called our Playaway Bookpacks. The Playaway Bookpacks are a curated collection of well-loved children’s books and a Playaway audiobook device. Almost everything your child needs to listen and follow along with the book is provided in the bookpack. The only addition needed for your child is their favorite pair of headphones.

The bookpacks were designed by Playaway to help young readers expand their vocabulary, improve their reading comprehension, and to help build their ability to hear and identify phonemes. Audiobooks have always served as a great alternative for readers looking for a new book format. Our Playaway Bookpacks offer the perfect blend of traditional books with fun, easy to use audio devices.

The bookpacks are offered in a variety of reading levels and subject interests. The reading ages range from Kindergarten to sixth grade with selections aligned with Common Core State Standards. Curious about these bookpacks and how the audiobook devices work? Visit your local LPPL branch and one of our librarians would be delighted to give you a one-on-one tutorial!
