More Summer Reading Fun Planned for July!

It seems it takes forever for summer to get here, and when it finally arrives, before we know it, it’s gone.

Here at LPPL, we look forward to June and July all year long. We get to see lots of friendly faces, including some we haven’t seen in a while (welcome back!), and we get to bring a lot of fun programs to our library branches. Don’t get us wrong. We offer awesome programs for people of all ages year round, but we manage to cram a lot of good, creative programming into our summer months.

We hope you’ve had a ball with your family at the library so far this summer. But there’s a lot more coming.

We’ve got groovin’ cats, magic yo-yos, and other special visits that will help to emphasize what we’ve known all along: Libraries Rock.

Take a peek below for some of our headlining programs in July.

Pete the Cat

You know Pete the Cat, right?

The star of his own series of books, Pete the Cat first made his way onto the literary stage about eight years or so ago when Pete the Cat: I Love My White Shoes was published. Since then, this cool cat has graced the cover of numerous books and is now a beloved literary character.

Children of all ages (and Mom and Dad, too, if they’re interested) can have a meet and greet with Pete the Cat at our library branches in early July.

Enjoy Pete the Cat stories, photo ops, and more when Pete visits.

Here’s a schedule:

  • Choctaw Branch: Monday, July 2, 10:30 a.m.

  • Thibodaux Branch: Monday, July 2, 2 p.m.

  • Bayou Blue Branch: Tuesday, July 3, 10:30 a.m.

  • Raceland Branch: Tuesday, July 3, 1:30 p.m.

  • Gheens Branch: Tuesday, July 3, 4 p.m.

  • Golden Meadow Branch: Thursday, July 5, 10:30 a.m.

  • Larose Branch: Thursday, July 5, 1:30 p.m.

  • Lockport Branch: Thursday, July 5, 4 p.m.

  • South Lafourche Branch: Friday, July 6, 10:30 a.m.

The Magic Yo-Yo

Magic yo-yos? Really?

Not quite, but performer Matthew Noel could trick you into believe his yo-yos are magic. A master yo-yo artist and juggler, Noel infuses his shows for children of all ages with comedy, magic, and loads of skill.

Be amazed when he visits our three main branches in July.

Don’t miss these performances.

  • South Lafourche Branch: Monday, July 9, 10:30 a.m.

  • Thibodaux Branch: Monday, July 9, 2 p.m.

  • Lockport Branch: Tuesday, July 10, 10:30 a.m.

Johnette Downing

Award-winning New Orleans children’s book author and musician Johnette Downing will visit in July, bringing her Louisiana Roots concert to Lafourche to help us celebrate Summer Reading.

The author of Today is Monday in Louisiana and other favorites, Downing will perform at the Wetlands Acadian Cultural Center, Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve in Thibodaux at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, July 16. On Wednesday, July 18, she’ll perform at the South Lafourche Branch at 10:30 a.m. and then at the Holy Savior Catholic School Cafeteria in Lockport at 2 p.m.

Join Ms. Downing – and us – for a rocking good time as we begin to say “goodbye” to summer.

As always, these programs are free and open to the public.

For more info on other summer reading programs, pick up a copy of your library branch’s calendar of events or visit us at www.lafourche.org
