Welcome, VOX Books!

It’s holiday time! In the name of family togetherness, the kids are going to be spending a fair bit of time off of school, which means that it is perfect timing that we just got an exciting new addition to our children’s collection.

Parents may remember read-along books that came packaged with a recording of someone reading the text of the book with a chime signaling is was time to turn the page. Depending on your age, you may recall a record, cassette tape, or CD. Vox books are the newest take on the idea with the recording being part of the book itself on an electronic audio player attached to the inside of the front cover. This player incudes both a speaker and a headphone jack and has buttons to speed up or slow down the recording to tailor the experience to the reader’s comfort level.

As of now, Vox books can be found in our three main branches (Thibodaux, Lockport, and South Lafourche) and have the same circulation rules as audiobooks. You can check out up to 5 at a time for 21 days. These books will be charged every time they are checked in, which should give them enough power to last through the time you have the books. No worries about charging them yourself or keeping track of a charger. Each Vox book is just a single item like any other book in our collection only with a neat extra ability to engage a budding reader!
