Time Marches On!

Did you make a New Year’s resolution yet? People have been making New Year’s resolutions, or promises, for thousands of years. In ancient times, people made promises of good behavior to their gods in hopes of achieving favor during the upcoming year. Now the majority of resolutions involve practices to promote health or save money. While many people believe that resolutions have to be big and obvious, the truth is that a resolution can be as simple as learning something new or using kind words every day.

If you have not yet made a goal, the beginning of the year can act as a somewhat gentle reminder about the passing of time. Are you completely satisfied with where you are right now? Do you want to make changes? Resolutions of change can begin on any day, not just on the first of January. Unlike the wizards in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, we cannot magically use Time-Turners to visit the past in order to make amends or change history when we fail. However, we can, like Tock the Watchdog in The Phantom Tollbooth, appreciate time and strive to make the most of every moment we have been given.

Regardless of what your goals may be, you can visit the library year-round to help you gain information to succeed.

In celebration of Shape Up U.S. Month and National Mental Health Month, special activities have been planned at our various branches.
