If you visit our Bayou Blue Branch this month, you will see a beautiful collection of art when you walk into the library foyer. This collection was painted by local artist Karen Thibodeaux Bordak, & she was happy to lend it to the library for the community to enjoy.
Karen Thibodeaux Bordok always loved to draw. From an early age, she was drawing portraits of her friends & family. During high school, she took art & enrolled in Art Correspondence Schools. After getting married & working while raising two daughters, there wasn’t much time for art.
However, after an accident left her unable to work for a while in 1991, she started taking art classes with Karen Kelly, & later with Billy Ledet. She also became a member of Downtown Gallery 630 while taking continuing education art classes at Nicholls & workshops whenever she could. Karen has been co-chair, then chairman for a few years, and she is now co-chair of the Children’s Summer Art Camp at the gallery.
Besides painting, her favorite thing to do is teaching & sharing art with children. She paints animals, still life, portraits, landscapes, & more in charcoal, pastel, acrylic, & watercolor. Karen also does collage work, as well as some drawing.
You can see some of Karen’s paintings at Downtown Gallery 630 in Houma, as well as on Facebook @ Karen Thibodeaux Bordok.
Thank you for sharing your wonderful collection with us, Karen! Our community is thoroughly enjoying it.
