Wishing You a Very, Fairy-Enchanted Spring @ Your Bayou Blue Library

Something magical is happening at our Bayou Blue Branch thanks to local artist, Harlan Freeze. We invite you to view his “Wishing You a Very, Fairy-Enchanted Spring” display at the branch this April.

Harlan Forris Freeze was born in Thibodaux, LA in 1961. He is currently a resident of Bayou Blue.

Harlan has been drawing since as far as he can remember. He even doodled art on the sky with his right point finger as a child. His 1st grade teacher, Mrs. LeBlanc, first saw his artistic talent. He later studied art at Raceland Jr. High with Mrs. Dickerson and at Central Lafourche with Ms. Gros, further pursing his talents.

Harlan grew up watching his grandfather, Forris Freeze, paint wild horses onto canvas, so we can safely conclude that art skills run in the Freeze blood line. Creativity also ran in his mother, Glenda Foret’s blood line.

Harlan has several art collections, capturing his personal take on mermaids, angels, and fairies. He credits God for his talent. God willing, Harlan plans to recapture his images onto spiritual cards and beach towels.

As to whether or not he personally believes in fairies, his passionate answer is “I DO, I DO!” He believes anyone on earth who inspires joy in the hearts of their fellow travelers is truly a Fairy made flesh.

We think you’ll believe too once you see Harlan’s beautiful artwork - enjoy!

(Special thanks: Daniel Kirk, Jade Lebouef, and library staff for their support)
