June is Audiobook Month!

Celebrate Audiobook Month with the Lafourche Parish Public Library!

Are you aware of the many forms of audiobooks that are available to you? There are books on CD, VOX books, Playaways, Playaway bookpacks, eAudiobooks, and even Launchpads which read to you as you watch the screen. Audiobooks are available for all ages and for a variety of personal interests. Listening to audiobooks while traveling can make the trip seem to go by much faster. Audiobooks can help emerging readers by pronouncing unknown words, thereby extending vocabulary. Listening to an author reading his own work can add an additional facet to an engaging story.

There are several access points to get free eAudiobooks on the Lafourche Parish website. Use the “Books, Movies, Music +” tab to access “Get eBooks & eAudiobooks.” Clear directions are given for how to access each of the free sites, using your library card. Cloud Library, Hoopla, and RBDigital all offer eAudiobooks which can be accessed on mobile devices. TumbleBook Library offers online Storybooks and Read-Alongs (which highlight the text as it reads to you). Storybooks categories include New Books, specific authors such as Kate DiCamillo, Animal Friends, Imagination, and Colors. Read-Alongs categories include Early Readers, Chapter Books, Advanced Readers, and Classics. Teen Book Cloud online audiobooks categories include Classics, Fiction, Non-Fiction, Drama and Poetry, and Science Fiction and Fantasy. The EBSCO eAudiobooks site offers many fiction and non-fiction audiobooks.

You can check out James Patterson’s new book The 14-Minute Murder on CD; Captain Underpants and the Attack of the Talking Toilets as an eAudiobook from RBDigital; Goodnight Moon as a VOX book; or even Judith Jance’s The A List in Playaway format. The options are amazing. Use your library card and enjoy free audiobooks. Get Caught Listening!
