As 2022 comes to a close, we at Lafourche Parish Public Libraries would like to say thank you to our communities’ support of our library system. As we like to say, our library is more than books. LPPL strives to be a place where our community connects, grows, learns and thrives.
Though we continued to face several setbacks due to Hurricane Ida, LPPL endeavors to serve all of its communities. Since our southernmost part of the parish currently does not have its libraries back, we decided to create the Library-2-Geaux Bookmobile service, which travels to the communities of Cut Off and Golden Meadow. With the Library-2-Geaux Bookmobile service, you can browse and check out materials for all ages on site, access free Wi-Fi, and print from your mobile device. The Library-2-Geaux Bookmobile service travels to the Cut Off Youth Center on Tuesdays from 12:00-3:30 PM and to Golden Meadow’s Town Hall on Thursdays, from 12:00-3:30 PM. In addition to these services, our Community Outreach Services department will also be providing story times weekly at both sites at 11:00 AM.
Throughout the year, we offer several programs to all ages of people, and December is no different. This month, we’re bringing back your favorites, such as Animal Tales, Mrs. Claus visits the Library, and The Polar Express. LPPL also has ready-made craft packets, called Take & Makes, for you to work on at home.
Check the list below for special holiday programs in your community.

We at LPPL know that it’s sometimes difficult to physically come into the branches during the busy holiday season. If you can’t make it to your favorite branch to check out books and audiobooks, we’ve got you covered with Cloud Library. LPPL patrons have access to tons of eBooks and eAudiobooks through the free Cloud Library app. Cloud Library makes it easy to discover the content you want to read and listen to. All you need is a library card and a smartphone, a tablet, or a computer to access Cloud Library’s vast digital catalog. Cloud Library syncs effortlessly across all your devices, and allows you to personalize your digital reading experience. The best part is that there’s no late fees—books and audiobooks are automatically returned on the due date.
Cold weather makes the idea of curling up with a good book especially appealing. This is great since December is Read a New Book Month. At LPPL, we are constantly getting new books in. At each branch, we have special locations for our new books. If they’re a book you’d like to read, but we do not own it, you can put in a request at your local branch or fill out the New Item Request Form on our website. We also have access to Cloud Library and Hoopla, which are online subscription services LPPL patrons have access to for free with their library cards. For Read a New Book Month, consider challenging yourself to read a new type of book you don’t usually read or try reading a book on a topic you’re not familiar with. If you’re not sure where to start looking for a new book to read, you can sign up for our Books and Bytes Digital Newsletter. Each month, our newsletter highlights books LPPL staff are currently reading as well as which books library staff across the country are currently reading.
