Newly Expanded Thibodaux Branch Re-Opening
After much planning, construction, and anticipation, the Lafourche Parish Public Library is proud to announce the re-opening of the expanded Thibodaux Branch Library. The expected opening date for the public is the last week in February, barring any last minute hitches. Changes and additions to the branch were made to meet the ever-growing needs of the community and will include separate adult, teen, and children’s areas.
Featuring the newly built 6,800 square foot adult addition, all adult books, reference, and computers will be housed in this area. Located on the second floor addition, some of the new features in the adult area include a new elevator to access the space, soft seating for relaxing, comfortable reading and studying, 28 computers, and two meeting/study rooms. Natural lighting has also been maximized to provide a sustainable, comfortable environment.
Best of all is the new Makerspace. Makerspaces are functional spaces that allow creative exploration with technology-related activities. Listed below is some of the equipment the Thibodaux Branch Makerspace will offer:
Sewing machines and sergers
LED Tracing Light Box for Graphics transferring
Creative Station for DIY crafts and projects
**Look for updates and additions to our Makerspace on our website under the Library Services tab.
The children’s and teen areas have also been revamped with more floor space and soft seating to help our younger users enjoy spending time in these spaces. A new high spot in the children’s area is the interactive Light Bright Wall, sure to be a big hit with everyone.
The Thibodaux Branch will open with limited capacity and social distancing measures in place.
Please note our new branch hours: Monday-Thursday, 9am to 7pm; Friday-Saturday, 9am to 1pm.
