Flight by Laura Griffin is the second book of the Texas Murder Files series. Set on a small island in Texas called Lost Beach, a nature photographer is taking photos in the early morning hours when she stumbles upon an abandoned canoe holding an obviously dead couple. The photographer happens to be Miranda Moore, a former CSI forensic photographer staying on the island. She quickly realizes that this couple is not the only murder victims of this serial killer.
Miranda Moore cannot believe her bad luck. She is trying to escape her CSI career due a severe case of burnout, but she gets pulled into a murder investigation. She can’t just leave evidence unphotographed, so she jumps right back into her training and helps out. But Miranda is spooked when she spots a footprint at her home that matches the killer’s print from the crime scene. Detective Joel Breda will do anything to find the killer on his island, even befriend a skittish Miranda. With Joel and Miranda teaming up they hope to solve the case without becoming the next victims.
Although this book is part of a series, it can be read as a stand-alone novel. I thoroughly enjoyed the mystery/thriller aspect of this book. I was pleasantly surprised that I could not guess the murderer until the end. I always like a little romance thrown in and Laura Griffin did a good job with that aspect. If you are in the mood for a good mystery, try Flight by Laura Griffin.
